GENERAL
I. GIVE A LITTLE RESPECT TO
Absolutely everyone. Literally everyone deserves respect, regardless of your opinions on their race, creed, sexuality, gender identity, and so on. Treat others how you want to be treated, and if you don't have anything nice or otherwise helpful to say, don't say anything at all. If you have a problem with another member, take it up with the staff before you start something.
II. TAG YOUR TRIGGERS
This is so important. This is a given with the whole "respect each other" thing, but it bears elaboration: here on Eclipse, we want everyone to feel safe, right? And Soul Eater, as a series, handles a number of uncomfortable topics. Given that we're trying to foster creative freedom (to a reasonable extent), these topics may appear from time to time on the forum. However, they will be allowed if and only if they are handled maturely and tagged appropriately. Please see the next post for the specifics.
III. PG-13
Or we fuqqed up. As a Proboards-hosted forum, we're sort of obligated to keep a PG-13 rating, or else we'll be terminated or something. Toeing the line of R-rated is probably going to happen, though, but be mindful not to leap into it, and god forbid you delve into X-rated anything. This includes, but is not limited to, keeping profanity to a reasonable amount (like, not every other word, at least?), no gratuitous anything, and keeping the sex to Skype. Sorry, kiddos.
III. TRY TO BE ACTIVE
We're gonna miss you while you're gone. If you can at least endeavor to be online on one of your accounts once a week, we should be golden. We just want to know you're still with us! We understand life getting hectic, though, so if something's keeping you away for a while, give us a heads-up?
IV. ASK QUESTIONS
That's like half of what we're here for. The staff, and hopefully the community as a whole, will always be more than happy to answer whatever question you have. Whether it's about whether or not something makes sense, or how something works, or if something might be frowned upon, we're never very far away with an answer!
CHARACTERS
I. ANIMANGA FACECLAIMS ONLY
We're so goddamn kawaii. In order to be the most sugoi we can be, it's really nice to have the styles of face claims look the same. Having Mello from Death Note roleplaying with Robert Downey, Jr. is more than a little jarring. If you need help finding a face claim, feel free to ask!
II. NO CANON CHARACTERS
Or their relations. Unless otherwise stated, the canon characters effectively do not exist (except Lord Death. he's kind of a big deal). It's a little hard to be related to someone that doesn't exist, you know? And even if they did, it's just not cool to state you're related to them. They'd call you crazy, if they existed.
III. MAKE ALL THE CHARACTERS
All of them (please don't actually make all of them). There is no character limit here, but you must be able to keep up with them all. Each character must have their own account, and the account must have a semi-appropriate username (e.g. naming a student scythe's account something like babaguuscooties is kind of silly).
IV. NO ONE IS PERFECT
And neither is your character. They are not flawless, they are not all-powerful. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, both in terms of personality and fighting abilities. If you're having trouble with writing a balanced character, try googling lists of character traits. See what might make sense for your character, as you have them! Otherwise, feel free to ask for suggestions.
V. KEEP A HANDLE ON THE NARCISSISM
Gosh, you're pretty. But that doesn't mean your images should be emblazoned across the entire page. Icons should be 100x100 and signatures should be no more than 450 pixels wide.
IN-CHARACTER
I. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF
A loaded god complex, drop it and give me 20. Your character is yours, and your roleplaying partner's characters are theirs. Do not propose to tell them what the heckie just happened to their character, because that is called powerplaying and that is frowned upon in most roleplaying circles. Similarly, your character is probably not all-powerful or invincible. Don't play them like they are. Usually, dodge-dodge-hit is a pretty good system, but if we have to break out the dice, we absolutely will.
II. THROW YOUR PARTNER A FRICKIN BONE
Don't make us regret the lack of a word count. The only time your character should be dropping one-liners is if they're trying to get a nice date, but the post should be nice and embellished otherwise to such a point that there's something to reply to. At least a paragraph per reply is strongly recommended, but is not by any means necessary.
